Crete: 33-year-old doctor who disappeared in December found dead

On Thursday, May 21st, the body of the 33-year-old doctor who disappeared last December was found in Fre Apokoronas, Chania, Crete. His death is attributed to suicide.

According to Greta24, the body was discovered by a local shepherd who alerted the authorities. Police, firefighters, and a forensic pathologist quickly arrived at the scene.

Despite the advanced state of decomposition, all indications suggest the body is that of Alexis Tsikopoulos, who disappeared on Sunday, December 7th, 2025. Official identification by the 33-year-old’s parents is expected on Friday, May 22nd.

Timeline of the Case

It all began on 12/7/2025. On that day, Alexis Tsikopoulos called his father, asking him to come down to Crete from Thessaloniki because he wasn’t feeling well. Before his father could arrive, Alexis disappeared without a trace.

The 33-year-old’s car was found in the Fre area of Apokoronas, Chania. According to his mother’s statements, the car appeared to have a malfunction. This led authorities to consider the possibility that Alexis had tried to seek help on foot, prompting the search to expand to surrounding villages.

As the investigations did not lead to the doctor’s whereabouts, in January 2026, OFKATH volunteers, led by Christos Ramo, arrived in Crete for about 5 days to assist in the search for Alexis.

Fast forward to the present, where the body was discovered yesterday in the Rizitiko area, between the villages of Fres and Tzitzifies, 100 meters from the church of Agios Georgios, and 1.5 kilometers away from where Alexis’s car was found.

According to Patris sources, the autopsy of the body, conducted by forensic pathologist Giorgos Mylonakis, revealed that he took his own life.
